With another pollen season upon us, Dr. Nick Nonas, a Denver-based allergist and contributor to WholeHealthMD.com, has several suggestions for keeping the itching, sneezing and wheezing at bay:

Check the daily pollen levels in your area. When the counts are high, stay indoors.

In the warmer months, use air-conditioners instead of opening windows and inviting allergens inside. And be sure to clean the unit’s filters for maximum cooling and allergen-trapping performance.

If dust mites and animal dander trigger your symptoms, shun carpets for easier-to-clean hardwood floors and tiles.

Consider washable slipcovers, and allergy-proof slipcovers and mattress covers. Use synthetic, not feather, pillows. To keep dust mites down, wash all fabrics once a week in very hot water.

Eliminate damp spots around the home. They are breeding grounds for mold.

A fourth, entirely new form of therapy that has been developed recently is electronic stimulation of the brain through an implanted, pre-programmed battery linked to the vagus nerve in the neck. Research continues on other new approaches to epilepsy, and there is a real possibility of a cure or cures, being developed in the future. In particular, discovery of genes associated with seizures may speed the development of new, more effective therapies.

When people have gone many years without seizures, or with very few, it may be worth discussing with the doctor whether a slow, timed reduction and withdrawal from medication would be a good option. A lot depends on how important it is to stay seizure free (if a person drives, for example), since there is a risk that the seizures will return. On the other hand, some people who fit these criteria find after withdrawal that they are able to live free of medication and free of seizures. A careful discussion with the physician of the risks and benefits in each individual case is advised.

Purchase safe and cheap medications from this no prescription pharmacy online and you will make enormous cost savings. Generic pills are made up of the similar chemical components and ingredients as original drugs.

Q. I saw the ad on the PC I was using. Please send me any up-to -date information on epilepsy as I myself am an epileptic diagnosed back in the early 70′s. I still live with the health issue and I am not bothered by having it but I would still like to be kept informed on the ongoing studies being done by the professionals in this field.

Your response at any time would be appreciated. Thank you! Although I have had two seizures in the last twelve years I still would like to know if there is any chance of any overcoming this disease at my age and after all the twenty-eight years I have lived with it.

–Tim D.N. Dubois

A. There have been many advances in treatment over the past 28 years. New antiepileptic drugs have come on the market which promise fewer side effects than the older ones. Advances in surgery and in the imaging and other tests that are done prior to surgery have made that procedure more common and more successful when the medications do not control seizures or create unpleasant side effects. Children with hard to control seizures are now treated more often with the ketogenic diet, a strict diet which makes the body burn fat instead of glucose for energy. The diet, like surgery, helps about two thirds of patients who are placed on it.

Here’s the famous online pharmacy no prescription presenting a large range of brand pills at inexpensive prices. Getting remedies on the internet is easy, secure at our site.

As your child’s schoolwork starts to pile up, don’t fall down on exercise. Make sure your child gets adequate physical activity on a daily basis. For total fitness, your child needs to participate in a variety of activities that offer these three key components:

cardiovascular fitness (at least 20 minutes of continuous activity)
muscular fitness (strength, endurance and flexibility)
balance and coordination

To ensure your child follows a well-rounded exercise program, choose activities from all three groups. The choices should reflect your child’s age, skill level and interests.

Take an active role in your child’s fitness by engaging in the activities together. It’s a terrific way to spend fun quality time together as a family while becoming more fit and healthy.

When it comes to sunscreen, you may not know as much as you think you do.

Slather it on! Imagine filling a shot-glass full (that’s about an ounce). Use at least that much. Let it soak. Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before you go into the sun. That gives your skin a chance to absorb the sunscreen.

Read the label. A high SPF (skin protection factor) doesn’t guarantee that you’re blocking both UVA and UVB radiation. Make sure the label says “broad spectrum” — which means it blocks both types. UVB light is associated with sunburn and common skin cancers such as squamous and basal cell carcinoma. UVA light is linked to more serious skin damage and melanoma.

Try zinc oxide. That’s the white stuff you often see on lifeguards’ noses. It’s also available in a transparent form. Once you’ve applied a thick coating of zinc oxide, you can go out in the sun immediately.

Reapply. No sunscreen is truly waterproof. Swimming and sweating will wash it off. It’s up to you to put it back on. Don’t believe labels that say “all day protection.”

Home treatment is an important part of treatment for Paget’s disease. Learning about the disease, keeping yourself safe, and having physical activity are all areas that may need to be addressed with Paget’s disease.

Learn about the disease

Read and study all that you can about Paget’s disease. The more you know, the better you will be at managing your symptoms.
Be realistic. Ask your health professional to give you instructions in writing. Don’t expect to remember everything. If instructions are written down, you can read them. Later you can talk to your health professional if you have questions.
Share your feelings. Talk with friends and family about what you are going through. Accept support and help from others if it is offered. Talk with your health professional about support groups for Paget’s disease. Talking with others who are dealing with the same problems may be helpful.

Safety

Paget’s disease makes bones weak and at risk for breaking. Make your home as safe as possible. Some tips for safety in your home include:
Get rid of throw rugs that may cause you to trip.
Place a nonskid surface in the bathtub or shower. Also place a nonskid surface (such as a bath mat) on the floor to step onto when getting out of the tub or shower.
Wear slippers or shoes with a nonskid sole.
Keep your home well lit. Install night lights so you can see where you are walking at night.
Don’t take sleeping pills or sedatives because they can affect your balance.
If you live in an area that gets snow and ice in the winter, take precautions to prevent slips and falls on steps or walkways.

Physical activity

Bone tissue breaks down more quickly in people who do not get regular exercise. Being inactive can make your Paget’s disease worse. Talk with your health professional about an exercise program that is right for you. Ask your health professional if you need to limit specific activities. If you have lost a lot of normal bone tissue (strong bone tissue), you may not be allowed to do certain strenuous physical exercises.

Special aids

You may need special aids to help you deal with some problems caused by Paget’s disease.
Hearing aids may be needed if hearing loss is a problem.
“White noise” machines may be helpful if ringing in your ears is a problem. These aids may be helpful when you are trying to fall asleep.
Crutches, canes, or walkers may be needed to steady your walking and keep you from falling. Be sure to ask for training in the proper use of these items.

People can get cheap and safe Propecia in pharmacies. Men choose and buy generic propecia cause it has proven to be effective, reliable in treating baldness that is extensively popular between guy.

Phlebitis is a condition usually caused by the inflammation of a vein near the surface of the skin and is generally the result of infection or injury that has caused clotting. This condition can range in severity. A more serious kind of phlebitis is deep-vein thrombosis, which occurs when blood clots form in the deep veins in your leg. Be aware that varicose veins may increase the risk of developing either condition.

The Symptoms of Phlebitis

Leg pain and a burning sensation with redness, tenderness and itching

Hard, cord-like swelling beneath the skin along the length of a vein in your leg. A bluish color in your toes.

What to do:

If you suffer from these symptoms, call your doctor for an immediate appointment. While phlebitis is usually not harmful, deep-vein thrombosis can cause clots that break off in your leg vein and travel to a lung.

Dear Armand,
This week I did:

Sunday: 40 minutes on treadmill, 20 minutes on cycling, 5 minutes on treadmill (cool down)
Tuesday: 1 hour cutthroat racquetball
Thursday: 2 hours walleyball
I did exercise diligently and ate pretty well, but I am frustrated that my weight did not decrease. Hopefully it’s due to the addition of muscle mass. I definitely have more room in my jeans.

Gotta go. I’m off for a bike ride before it rains!

Dear Sharon
This week I needed less ice cream and more veggies/fruit.

I did exercise three times, but no weight loss! Grrrr!

Sorry this is so short, but it’s about to rain, and I want to ride my bike before it starts.

Mandie

Sharon’s Reply

Mandie,
I hear your frustration with the scale. There are times when you feel it should drop, and then there are times it drops for no apparent good behavior. Your weight is mostly affected by the total of your eating and exercise behavior for the past two weeks.

Let’s look at this week. Your fat gram intake increased to 50 grams a day, from 44 grams since last week. But that is not the whole story. You are right — not enough fruits and vegetables.

But also, your total calorie intake this week is a bit higher. This is because almost every thing you ate was prepared by someone else! You can’t be really sure how much fat is in Chinese food, or a tuna salad hoagie. You ate Chinese too often, and have you ever heard of low-fat frozen yogurt?

I get the sense that you are not making food choices, but letting whatever may happen with food, happen. Take charge of your eating — buy healthy food, pack your lunch, put better snack foods in your apartment. You are spending a good deal of money on eating out — and then the food choice is less than desirable. Try buying low-fat frozen dinners if you can’t cook. Save up your calories and dollars for the weekend when you go out with friends. Be conservative with both during the week.

I know this sounds like a motherly lecture, but I see you slipping into old habits that will only delay your weight loss. To maintain a weight loss, you have to make basic changes in the way you deal with food — and keep these changes as new habits. You have a desk job now — you can’t eat like one of the guys. Find the time to shop once a week and make a lunch. The alternatives usually don’t work out well.

Hang in there — get tough on yourself. You can do this.

Sharon

Armand’s Reply

Dear Mandie,
Try not to get frustrated. You are right in that you are losing body fat and gaining lean weight, so it might not reflect a loss on the scale. How your clothes fit is a good gauge of progress.

As far as your exercise, I like the variety. However, I’d like to see at least one more day of structured cardiovascular exercise, such as cycling, walking, etc.

Also, I’d like you to start doing modified pushups and abdominal curls two to three times per week — such as Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Begin with 8 to 10 and add 1 to 2 each week. Perform them after your cardiovascular workout and before your stretching. Good luck.

Armand

When you’re suffering from erectile dysfunction, impotency, don’t get disheartened more, cause this days you may purchase vardenafil jelly to assist you maintain your excitation.

Some men may choose to have a prosthesis implanted in their penises. A penile prosthesis is an artificial device that is placed within the tip of the penis. A prosthesis will not lengthen the penis, but it may allow a man to resume satisfactory sexual intercourse by making the penis rigid. Typically, these devices cost between $3,500 and $10,000. When including the physician’s fee and the hospital charges for the surgery to implant the device, the total cost amounts to approximately $15,000.

There are several types of devices available, from the simple semirigid prosthesis to the more complex inflatable prostheses. The semirigid prosthesis does not change in size. Silicone-covered rods implanted in the penis maintain penile rigidity all the time. An erection is produced by bending the penis upward.

As for the inflatable prostheses, a small pump, usually located within the scrotum, allows for fluid to move from a reservoir into the prosthesis, providing an erection.

When intercourse is completed, the prosthesis is deflated by pressing a release valve, allowing the penis to become flaccid. These devices malfunction only rarely, and men who have used them say they are pleased with them.

Placement of a penile prosthesis requires surgery, which typically means an overnight stay in a hospital. Insurance often covers the procedure. More than 80 percent of patients who have had a prosthesis placed are satisfied with it, according to studies. Risks of penile prosthesis placement include surgical complications, injury to the urethra, infection of the penis and malfunction of the prosthesis.

A study has found that people who smoke may put their family at risk of poor nutrition and increase their risk of chronic diseases and obesity, as smokers and their families consume more saturated and total fat than their nonsmoking counterparts.

In the study, researchers reviewed data on smoking and nutrition between 1994 to 1996, from a database at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Researchers found that women married to smokers had higher levels of total and saturated fat, and lower levels of fiber, calcium and folate than women married to nonsmokers. Men married to smokers also had higher levels of total and saturated fat, and consumed more alcohol and cholesterol than men married to nonsmokers (Reuters Health, Apr. 18, 2011).

In addition to higher fat intake, smokers and their families have an increased risk of chronic diseases. Smokers put themselves and their families, through second-hand smoke, at risk for cancer, heart disease and deadly infections, such as meningitis, pneumonia and blood stream infections.

People who smoke account for about half of all invasive pneumococal disease cases, and the more that people smoke, the higher their risk for pneumococal disease (Reuters Health, Mar. 8, 2011).
